Bruce's Blog: "Slim Margins"

So as most of you probably know by now, Dorking missed out on promotion on Saturday by just 44 points.

In Surrey League terms that is only a small gap.  It is the equivalent of all of us making up one or two places in a sprint finish in all four races or Dorking getting one of our absentee faster runners onto the start line for just one of the four races.

So whilst there was a touch of disappointment with missing out on going up to Division two, that was offset by some great performances on Saturday by those that made it on the day.  None more so than Michael Alwin, who seems to be running better and better, week by week.  Mike took his maiden Surrey League race victory by a commanding 23 seconds and one spectator said to me that he looked to be cruising round.

We can also celebrate the fact that Dorking won the "B" team league, so well done to every one of you, you have all contributed to that achievement.  We had built up a big lead after the first two races, so although we suffered a little from lack of numbers at Oxshott and Croydon, there was enough in reserve to take the title..

The final league tables are shown below:

I look forward to next season's XC league season starting in October, and we will aim again to achieve promotion to Division Two.

Before then, I hope to see many of you at various road races and/or track events over the spring and summer.

I will send a separate communication about the Surrey Road League.

Thanks once again for your efforts
